The Perfect 3 Days in New Orleans for an Unforgettable Trip
Day 1: Immerse Yourself in the Heart of New Orleans – The French Quarter
Morning: Explore the French Quarter of New Orleans
Your New Orleans adventure starts in the iconic French Quarter. This historic neighborhood is the perfect introduction to New Orleans. Spend the morning exploring the quaint streets of this area, goggling at the unique Creole architecture, with intricate balconies and plants flowing over top of the streets.
After a wander around the streets, head to the stunning St. Louis Cathedral—it’s hard not to be amazed by its beauty! The cathedral sits at the heart of Jackson Square, where you’ll often find street performers entertaining everyone roaming the streets. From incredibly talented musicians to wonderfully creative artists, spend some time ambling around these areas to soak up the lively and creative environment New Orleans thrives off of.
During my visit, there was a solo trumpet player and a huge marching band down one of the streets. They were playing some of the most incredible music I have heard live. So just by wandering the streets, you are sure to be immersed in the musical culture of New Orleans!
Afternoon: Try the famous beignets of Café du Monde
After a morning of wandering around the French Quarter, head to the famous Café du Monde —a New Orleans must. Grab a beignet (or three) and a café au lait while you people-watch in this famous spot. If you’re lucky, you can listen to a street performer as you enjoy this iconic sweet treat overlooking the vibrant French Quarter.
Be sure to bring some cash with you to this cafe as it is cash only! Make sure you also have enough for a tip as the waiters / waitresses are super friendly and efficient.
Evening: Head down to Frenchman Street for an evening of jazz
As evening falls, head over to Frenchman Street, which hosts the best jazz in New Orleans. Whether you’re strolling down the street or stopping by one of the many bars, the live music of this area creates an unforgettable atmosphere that truly captures the essence of New Orleans.
Make sure to check out Three Muses. It’s a cozy spot known for its great cocktails, live jazz, and a unique vibe that’ll immerse you in the authentic atmosphere of New Orleans.

Day 2: Exploring the Beautiful Garden District
For your second day exploring New Orleans, head over to the Garden District, where you can experience a more peaceful side of the city.
Morning: Head over to the Garden District
To get to the Garden District, take the iconic streetcar from the French Quarter. This is definitely the best way to see the city. You can sit on a cozy wooden seat as you watch the architecture shift from the Creole balconies of the French Quarter to grand, historic houses of the garden district. With immaculate gardens lining each house, it’s easy to see how this district inherited its name.
Spend the morning strolling down these picturesque streets before grabbing some lunch in a local cafe.
Afternoon: Explore the Garden District Marketplace
After some lunch, be sure to stop by the Garden District Marketplace, where you’ll find adorable handmade crafts and local artwork. It’s a perfect spot to pick up something special to remember your trip by whilst supporting local artists.
Evening: Take a trip on a jazz boat tour of New Orleans
As the day comes to a close, why not take a jazz boat tour along the Mississippi River? Relax as you cruise along the river on a traditional steamboat, enjoy live jazz, and take in the beautiful views of the city from the water. It’s a great way to experience New Orleans from a different perspective.
Take the cruise during sunset to witness the city’s beauty in daylight and watch as it comes alive at night.
Day 3: Explore beyond the city to the Louisiana Swamps

On your final day, it’s time to explore the natural beauty that surrounds New Orleans Ttake a swamp tour and experience the true nature of Louisiana.
